Edmonton Chinatown Multi-Cultural Centre
About Us
Edmonton Chinatown Multicultural Centre is a non-profit organization. The operation is funded by donation from both Chinese and non-Chinese enthusiastic people and government assistance. It was built and opened in 1985 with a purpose to promote Chinese culture, the East and West cultural exchange and to provide recreational facility for people of all ethnic origins.
Educational Services
Our centre offers Chinese language courses of both Cantonese and Mandarin to over 400 students. There are also a variety of interest classes including cartoon drawing for children, math and English tutorial classes, children ballet, computer classes and piano classes.
Recreational Services
There are two senior Tai Chi classes, one instructed in English and the other in Chinese. Each year, we hold several senior tours. Periodically, we have joint ventures with other art organizations in many Chinese Opera, Dance performances and Chinese art painting exhibition. We also offer table tennis training. Every year, we host the table tennis tournament which is great success with participation and support of table tennis lovers.
Cultural Exchange
During the Chinese New Year, we hold the yearly Chinese New Year Extravaganza so as to promote our heritage festival to the mainstream society. There are also over 2-3 thousand grade 6 students form about a hundred Edmonton Public Schools touring our centre and Chinatown during the Chinese New Year. Our staff give lectures about Chinese culture to the students and take them to tour around different shops in Chinatown. Lunches are arranged for them to taste the Chinese gourmet food and dimsum. The tours promote studends understanding of and arouse their interest in Chinese culture. Our centre also take part in the Heritage Festival. We setup a "Chinese Pavilion" and a "Hong Kong Pavilion" on Heritage Day to introduce the Chinese culture, music, art and food to the mainstream society, and thus promoting multiculturalism. 點問頓中華文化中心暑期夏令營開始接受報名啦!!!
